ACCESS Logo

ACCESS is the youth network of the AIIA in Victoria, Australia's pre-eminent non-government institution dealing with all aspects of Australia's foreign relations and international affairs.
Combining the benefits of a professional association and a social club, ACCESS fuses social and professional objectives of the growing number of students and young professionals in their 20s and 30s seeking international careers.
Unprecedented in Victoria, ACCESS caters for a diverse range of international disciplines and industries across the professional and academic spectrum including politics, law, business & finance, development, journalism.
It has been established to provide resources to young AIIA members, an informal forum to encourage and facilitate debate on international affairs, foster networking and promote professional skill development. Find out more below.
ACCESS is sponsored by ITS Global
a consultancy firm in Melbourne that focuses on international trade, environmental policy, development aid and strategy and communication.
In 2007 it received a grant from the Walter Mangold Trust Fund. In 2006, the launch was supported and endorsed by the Victorian state office of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and by Readers Feast Bookstore.
An integral part of the AIIA
ACCESS is part of a wide-ranging project to help revive the AIIA as a place for debate, networking and analysis. ACCESS is already in place at the Sydney branch of the AIIA and ACCESS was launched in Victoria in August 2006.
We operate under the auspices of the AIIA and we aim to make AIIA more accessible to younger people. The AIIA remains the parent organization and all aspects of ACCESS complement AIIA membership for the younger generations.
As a youth network, it is centred on a committee with a Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and nominated persons covering areas such as mentoring, events, marketing, research and IT. We also support the AIIA's annual International Careers Conference.
Student & Young Professionals
ACCESS aims to engage the younger generation interested in international affairs and provides regular networking opportunities in an informal environment. Catering for students and young professionals, ACCESS is a non-partisan forum for debate, a stepping-stone and a bridge across the divide between generations, work sectors and academic disciplines.
As young members of the AIIA, we designed ACCESS to provide a stepping-stone for graduates into international careers, for postgraduates in publication, and for young professionals in networking.
A ‘Stepping-Stone’
ACCESS is expected to provide a significant stepping-stone for graduates aiming to take up international careers, for postgraduates seeking wider publication opportunities, and for young professionals wanting to engage in networking with an international dimension.
We position ourselves between universities and existing professional associations, by encouraging lively debate between the academic and professional realms. We also hope to bridge the divisions between generations, sectors and disciplines.
The AIIA aims to attract a growing number of ambitious tertiary-educated people who are proactive about developing their career prospects, to this new youth network, ACCESS. Existing young AIIA members already demonstrate an inclination towards moving into government, journalism, non-government organisations, international business and finance. By regularly participating in ACCESS events, young members are expected to greatly enhance their knowledge and career prospects.
